SCIENCE and SOUL in DREAMS

4th Biennial Conference of Dream Network Aotearoa-NZ, 2022

In place of our scheduled Dream Conference on 5th-6th March this year, we held a double webinar on Zoom, presenting four of the power-point seminars we had scheduled for the Conference. Some 30 members attended online.

On Saturday morning, Margaret Bowater presented a survey of The Scientific Development of Dreamwork outlining the changes of theory and practice over 120 years from Freud to Kelly Bulkeley.  After a short break, this was followed by Marg Toland’s account of her work with a young client suffering from Post-Trauma nightmares, using the theory and process of Self-Havening Touch.

On Sunday morning Bro. Kevin Dobbyn presented The Place of Dreams in the Design of the Soul, based on his Ph.D research on spiritual formation, with particular reference to the dreams of Thomas Merton. This was followed by Jeni McGarry’s moving account of her own soul-journey, Dreams as Soul-Guides in Life-Transitions, based on Jungian theory. Each presentation lasted for 1 ½ hours, and all were recorded.

Although we were novices with the technology involved, the feedback we received was highly positive.
Margaret Bowater, Secretary
